Safeguarding

Who is responsible for the safeguarding of children?

It is everybody’s responsibility to be vigilant and listen to students when they are worried about safeguarding issues.

Within LWF every member of staff receives safeguarding training and all staff are made aware of the designated safeguarding officers who are currently, Ann Stebbings (Head of School, St Bernard’s) and Michelle Hockham (Head of School, St Lawrence).  In their absence the Tall team can be contacted, Sue Clinton, Martin Chatterton at St Lawrence, Tonya Stokes at St Bernard’s, or Simon Durham within Maples.

As a Federation we ensure:

  • That all staff know how to access the safeguarding policy
  • All staff are clear how to follow procedures
  • Whole school safeguarding training
  • That safer recruitment practices, which provide for appropriate checks are in place and adhered to
  • Designated persons liaise regularly across the trust and gain up to date information and training.

‘No barrier, no bureaucracy, no buck-passing should ever get in the way of keeping children safe’ - Lord Laming 2009

How safeguarding is included in the curriculum.

LWF promotes safety within our students by providing time every day on arrival and throughout the day, to allow students the opportunity to discuss issues/barriers as well as allowing topic based discussions. Every student receives PSHE lessons where subjects are specifically targeted. We also endeavour to cover a range of topics throughout the curriculum such as:

  • Stranger danger
  • Road safety
  • Medicines and drug awareness
  • Sex and relationships education
  • Internet safety
  • Building friendships (anti-bullying)
  • Emergency services and first aid

We at LWF are committed to giving our students the tools and knowledge that is required to keep themselves and each other safe from harm.

LWF’s Safeguarding Policy can be found under the Policies tab.
